Band Council and Staff
A. President
The Band President is the top ranking officer of the band. It is his/her responsibility to serve as a liaison between the director, and the band officers and members. This student should provide leadership to instill pride, morale, and a desire to excel in all band members.
- The President is to oversee and maintain the functions of the band officers and student activities. He/she may schedule and call meetings of the officers.
- The Band President is also an ex-officio member of the Band Boosters as student representative and spokesperson for the band.
- Coordinate Band Awards Banquet.
B. Vice President
The Band Vice-President assists the President in maintaining the functions of the band officers and overall program. He/she is expected to act in situations with regard to communication, public relations, facility, and general conditions. Like the President, this student should provide leadership to instill pride, morale, and a desire to excel in all band members.
- The Vice-President keeps a record of "Spirit Stick" recipients .
- Ensures adequate coverage in LHS publications.
- Assists Secretary in finding chaperones and helpers for concerts.
C. Secretary
- Handles band student correspondence
- Responsible for assigning and keeping records of instrument lockers, bus lists, and awards.
- Assists with any clerical tasks involving the band program.
- Responsible for finding chaperones for every trip.
- Finds students helpers to assist at concerts (These are students not in the performing group.
D. Treasurer
- Coordinates all fund raising
- Takes care of money from student fees/supplies
E. Historian
- The Band Historians are responsible for compiling photographs of band related events including rehearsals, performances, fund raisers, and trips.
- These officers provide a scrapbook or video production, in conjunction with the Band Booster Historian, of the year’s activities to be presented at the Band Banquet.
E. Class Representative
- Elected to represent their classes
- Assist in band officer duties
F. Equipment Managers
Appointed by directors
- The Band Property Secretary & Property Managers are in charge of the equipment owned by the band. This includes the issuance, collection, and inventory of all equipment.
- These officers are also responsible for the transporting of equipment to and from rehearsals and performances.
- In charge of loading crew and equipment
- They are also in charge of the general condition of the band room and practice field.
G. Uniform Secretary & Uniform Managers
- The Band Uniform Secretary & Uniform Managers are in charge of the uniforms owned by the band. This includes the issuance, collection, and inventory of all marching and concert uniforms.
- These officers are also responsible for sorting dry-cleaned uniforms.
G. Librarians and Aides
Appointed by directors
- In charge of copying, filing and distributing music.
- Maintains music library
H. Drum Majors
The Drum Majors are auditioned by a panel and appointed by the director. The Drum Majors are in charge of the band, including all auxiliary groups, during marching events, being responsible only to the director. They assume secondary command in all other matters and assist the President.
- Assist in inspections and teaching marching fundamentals.
- Represent the marching band in all activities
I. Color guard Captain and Lieutenants
Auditioned by a competent panel.
- Inspect and drill the color guard for all marching events.
- Work closely with the color guard instructor
J. Drum line Captain
Auditioned by directors
- Inspects and drills the drum line.
- Responsible for seeing that all equipment is available and in proper working order.
- Works closely with the drum instructor.
K. Section Leaders
Section leaders are interviewed and appointed by the director. Selection is based on attitude, playing ability, leadership, conduct, and willingness to work. In most cases, section leaders will be the first chair players of their section.
Duties of the section leaders include :
- Exemplify and supervise proper rehearsal procedures within the section and bring matters of importance to the attention of the Band President and/or director.
- Arrange and call sectionals, as necessary.
- Check prepared music assignments and memorization. Helps conduct memory playoffs
- Be sure that the section has proper equipment, music, etc.
- Motivate section to strive for the "Spirit Stick" at each rehearsal.
- Take roll at the beginning of marching rehearsals and prior to each performance. Absenteeism will be reported by the section leader to the dire
